DNZ position on low carb, high fat (LCHF) diets

ed1dfb5527In recent months there has been a lot of interest in the media about Low carbohydrate, high fat diets.

This has lead to a lot of confusion about the best balance of energy in people’s diets and in particular the recommendations regarding the use of saturated fat such as that found in butter, coconut, cream and bacon etc.

Dietitian’s New Zealand have produced a position paper outlining the pros and cons of fat and carbohydrate in the diet and remind us that “there is not one diet to fit all”.

Dietitian’s New Zealand recommends an approach that works for the individual; is safe and realistic; and is based on foods shown by the best evidence to support health in the long-term. Registered dietitians are able to provide individualised dietary advice to suit your specific requirements.

Contact us if you would like an assessment to insure that your own fat and carbohydrate intake meets your needs for your age and activity level.
