Milk myths fact sheet

Do you avoid milk?

Why is that? Is it the taste you dislike or do you find you get wind or gas, fear abdominal pain or diarrhoea.

Not everyone can tolerate drinking cows milk however milk drinking is also the subject of many myths the top 4 being:

  1. If you can’t tolerate dairy products you must have lactose intolerance.
  2. Lactose intolerance and milk allergy are the same
  3. Lactose intolerance is a serious medical condition
  4. If you can’t drink milk because of lactose intolerance you’ll likely also struggle with cheese and yoghurt.
