Kiwi diets not worth its salt

New Zealand rates poorly in a new WHO report rating countries on their action to reduce salt intake and shows we urgently need a national strategy.

A high salt (sodium) intake can increase blood pressure, heart disease and stroke a leading cause of death and disability in NZ.

A high salt intake can also increase the rate at which calcium is lost from our bones and so is associated with reduced bone density and strength leading to reduced physical performance and mobility.
