Its about time we took action for Diabetes

Diabetes Action Month 2019 from 1-30 November is an awareness and action campaign that focuses on educating New Zealanders about Diabetes.

Its aimed at inspiring “kiwis” to take action and encouraging everyone to support those with Diabetes.

This years theme “It’s about Time” is because “It is about Time that we all took Diabetes more seriously. “It’s about Time” that people living with Diabetes had access to better medication and continuous glucose monitoring.

According to Wikipedia there are over 240,000 people in New Zealand who have been diagnosed with diabetes (mostly type 2). It is thought there are another 100,000 people who have it but don’t know. Diabetes is most common among Māori and Pacific Islanders

“It’s about Time” that we find those  undiagnosed 100,000 people who don’t know that they are diabetic.

Are you one of them?

While it can’t be cured it can be managed so find out:

  • If you are at risk
  • What are the symptoms of Type 1 and 2 Diabetes?
  • What tests do you need to have done?
  • What lifestyle changes do you need to make to turn this all around?
